On 3rd July, 1917, 17th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division moved into the front line north of the Ypres-Comines canal to the south of Ypres. The Battalion Diary entry for 4th July recorded that the enemy artillery was active during the day, hostile aircraft were very much in evidence, the reserve and support lines were intermittently shelled by heavy guns and that the ration parties were harassed by shell fire. Amid all this chaos John Leahy was killed. |
